What It Takes to Keep Going
I sat down with the British ultra-endurance athlete for a conversation about discipline, perseverance, and what drives a person to keep moving
At a time when so many people are looking for examples of resilience and purpose, William Goodge has become known for taking on extreme endurance challenges. I sat down with the British ultra-endurance athlete for a conversation about discipline, perseverance, and what drives a person to keep moving when the body and mind are both telling you to stop. After running across Australia in 35 days in 2025, Goodge brings a perspective shaped by hardship, persistence, and purpose.
Running became a central part of Goodge’s life after his mother died of cancer in 2018. Since then, he has taken on major endurance challenges, including a 55-day run across the United States, while raising money for cancer charities in her memory.
In our discussion, we talk about how he found his way into endurance sport, what these kinds of challenges demand mentally and physically, and why stories of perseverance continue to resonate well beyond the world of running. It is a thoughtful conversation about grief, resilience, and the power of taking one more step. You can follow Will’s journey here.
Like all of my interviews, this conversation is meant to be a place where you’ll hear fair, honest, and direct thinking from people who truly know the subject, without talking points or ideological spin. The goal is to offer context and clarity you don’t often find elsewhere, grounded insight that helps make sense of what people are capable of and why it matters.

Loved this and what an inspiration. His mom is proud! I ran with Dean and would love to run with him too- but you didn’t let him answer the question about when he’s running thru Ohio 🤦♀️??? And how do we donate? Will deff be waving a sign in NYC Nov 1!
